DNS and Name Registration

Can I run my own DNS?
Yes. You run your own server. If you want to run a DNS service you are welcome to do so. If you prefer not to run your own you can use our DNS free of charge. If you do run your own, you will not have access to the reverse IP. For reverse entries, please send an email to WebPG Hostmaster with the name and IP address and we will include the entry in our reverse DNS files.

If I use your DNS, what do I need to do?
Please send an email to WebPG Hostmaster with the names and IP addresses for the domains you desire and we will include the entries in our DNS files. Then please reference the following nameservers with the name registrar (Network Solutions, etc).

IP Addresses

How many IP addresses do I get?
We will supply you with the IP addresses that you need. We generally supply IPs in blocks of 5 or 10 as you need them. We only ask that you justify their use, as we have to justify our use to obtain more. We generally keep enough IPs in reserve to quickly satisfy your requests so there is no need to "bank" IPs in reserve yourself.

How much do extra IP addresses cost?
We do not charge for IP addresses, but again, we ask that you only request IPs that you are actually going to use.


Bandwidth

How do you measure bandwidth?
Bandwidth is measured using the "95th percentile of 5 minute averages" method. We have an entire page on this subject where you can read about it in detail. In summary, we monitor the data in and out of the backbone switch port that your server is connected to. We measure an average every 5 minutes, gathering samples throughout the entire month (8,640 samples). We arrange the samples from highest to lowest then toss out the top 5% (432 samples). The 433rd sample is your bandwidth usage for the month. This method allows you to burst at a high rate 1/20 of the time without cost penalty.

How do I change my account to a higher level?
You have to do nothing. We only charge you for what you actually use for that month. We do not "cap" or limit your usage, so if you need more usage in one month, you can just use it with no fear of being limited.

How can I tell how much I am using?
Each client is given a URL which allows them to view a real-time plot of the usage. 4 plots are provided giving a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly view. Our page on bandwidth shows an example of these plots.


Server Use

Can I load on XYZ software package?
Yes, you can load on whatever you want. It is your machine to administer in the manner you see fit. Bear in mind that the farther you deviate from the supplied configuration, the less we would be able to support you. If you are comfortable in your administration skills, please feel free to do as you wish.

Are there any restrictions on the use of my server?
Simply put, we do not allow use of the server which could be prosecuted under any law having jurisdiction. Examples of uses which would not be permitted are any illegal materials (copyright violations, warez, etc) or SPAM (unsolicited commercial email).

Do you allow adult content?
No, adult content is not permitted under our acceptable use policy.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept nearly any form of payment you may want to use: VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Check, Money Order, Wire Transfer, PayPal, BillPoint, and Western Union. If there is another method you would like to use, please contact us and we will consider it. We want to make it easy for you!

Can I pay online?
Yes! You can use your credit card on our secure payment page.
