Cobalt RaQ Series Dedicated Servers
The Cobalt RaQ Dedicated Server plan is for the business which wants
their own server, either due to the volume of traffic or a need to control all aspects
of their site directly.
Small Web Hosting companies will especially appreciate the Cobalt server plans.
Using a Cobalt it is possible to host sites for as little as
$1-$2 per month each. The Web Presence Group offers a surprisingly low-cost
dedicated server plan.
Your Own Server
Unlike virtual hosting where the web sites of many companies share the same
physical machine, the dedicated server is just that, an entire web server
computer dedicated to your company's site.
Our Cobalt Dedicated Servers include all software needed to
develop and host web sites, including the Linux operating system,
Apache web server, SendMail, and Perl scripting language. For the
programmer, standard development tools include compilers, editors,
header files, and libraries.
Each machine can concurrently handle over 140,000 emails, 50,000 file transfers, and
over 250,000 web page requests in one day. If being used only as a
web server, each machine can handle millions of web page requests per day.
We Maintain the Computer - You Run the Show
We maintain the physical server in our Network Operations Center, making
sure it has adequate battery and generator backup, and maintaining the connection
to the Internet Backbone. You have complete freedom to administer the server
as you see fit. Using the web-based control panel you can add and remove sites
and users, manage the email for your domains, even run your own nameserver.
You have the admin and root passwords and have complete control of the server.
Which Machine is for Me?
Cobalt Networks has several models in the RaQ series, the RaQ, RaQ2, The RaQ3, RaQ4, and XTR.
Choosing which model is right for you depends on the amount ot traffic that you
anticipate and the software/services that you plan to run.
The RaQ and RaQ2 use a MIPS 64bit superscalar RISC processor with the RaQ2 running
at a higher processor speed than the RaQ. The RaQ2 can serve a maximum of 10 million
web objects per day and the RaQ somwhat less (approx 6 million). Since the RaQ and RaQ2
use the MIPS processor, the software that you run has to be MIPS compatible. The RaQ
servers come pre-loaded with a complete suite of web tools (see the
Cobalt site for
complete details) so it is unlikely you will need to load any additional software.
The RaQ3 and the RaQ4 both use an Intel compatible processor and can serve a million
more web objects a day. The 3i includes a second 10/100 ethernet port, an external SCSI
port, and one PCI slot, while the RaQ3 has a single 10/100 ethernet port.
Cost
The plan cost depends on three factors: the RaQ Version, the amount of RAM, and
the size of the Hard Disk (a beefier server carries a higher cost). Bandwidth cost
is independent of the server selected, and is based on actual usage.
